Obituary: Monroe Puffer, 85, Hornell/Canisteo-Lifetime hobby as a driver and enthusiast of Local Dirt track racing

Monroe Puffer, 85, a resident of The Woodlands, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (Feb. 11,2025) at his home. Born in the Town of Canisteo, Oct. 29, 1939, he was the son of Isaac and Mildred Stephens Puffer. He was a 1959 graduate of Canisteo Central School, and had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers Union # 832 out of Rochester.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son Richard, his sister, Edith Puffer, his brothers, Gerald, Robert and Marion Puffer, and son in law Stephen Holtby.
Surviving is his wife, Joanne Hallett Puffer, to whom he was married August 22, 1959. His daughters, Gwen (Mitchell) Liebman of New Jersey, Nancy Holtby of Idaho, Linda Bailey (Joseph) of Hornell, his brother, James (Lois) Puffer of Corning, 8 Grandchildren, Lauren Jury (Benjamin), Megan Hobler (John), Aaron Liebman, Ryan Puffer-Willis (Mary), Kevin Holtby (Arielle), Kyle Holtby, Joseph Bailey (Samantha), Mark Bailey (Aryn) and 9 Great Grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
Lifetime hobby as a driver and enthusiast of Local Dirt track racing at Woodhall, Allentown and Dundee.

Family and friends may call on Saturday (Feb. 15, 2025) from 11 AM until 1 PM at Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo where funeral services will follow at 1 PM, with Rev. John Cwynar officiating. Burial will follow at Heritage Hill Cemetery in Arkport.
