Structure fires sweep Allegany County on Sunday

Wellsville – Just before noon, the Wellsville Fire Department along with several mutual aid departments were called to a house fire at 238 Farnum Street in the village, a home tax records say is owned by Marc & Kathleen Morehouse. A Wellsville police patrol was first on the scene and confirmed flames were showing. However, thanks to quick action by Wellsville firefighters, the blaze was quickly brought under control and some dogs were rescued from the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Alfred – Shortly before 3 p.m., Alfred, Alfred Station fire and others were called to a reported structure fire at the Alfred University National Casting Center (Alfred Foundry) in Alfred. Initial reports from Alfred police indicated there was smoke showing. The Alfred fire chief told 911 that “the fire seems to be confined to a down draft welding table…people can slow their response.” Following a quick investigation, all fire units were given the all-clear message and they could return to service. The National Casting Center is run by the New York State College of Ceramics School of Art and Design’s Sculpture/Dimensional Studies program and comprises state-of-the-art facilities in metal casting and glass casting.
