Obituary: Charles N. Carlton, 83, Canisteo - former school administrator

Canisteo-Charles N. Carlton, 83 of East Main Street, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2025) at his home.

Born in Elmira, NY, July 9, 1941, he was the son of Keith and Margaret Dickerson Carlton. Following his graduation from Painted Post High School, he received his Masters Degree in Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
He was employed for 17 years in the Orange County, New York School System before coming to Canisteo in 1988. He assumed the Superintendent’s position in the Canisteo Central School District, later becoming Principal at the Elementary School, a position he held until his retirement in 2002.
He was predeceased by his parents, his step-mother, Kathryn Pseister Carlton, his sister, Shirley Colecchei and, his brother Robert Carlton
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Hutson Carlton, to whom he was married August 8, 1964, his son, Brian Carlton of Corning, his half sister, Linda Woloston of Florida, his grandchildren, Dylan Carlton, Travis Carlton. Nikolas Carlton and Isabelle Carlton, his great grandchildren, Lily Ann Carlton, Taeveyean Carlton, Abigail Grossman and Chase Towner, several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday (March 8, 2025) at 10:00 AM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo. Deacon Robert McCormick will officiate.
It was Charles’ desire that those wishing to remember him, consider a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
