At 12:21 p.m. on Friday, Wellsville Fire, EMS & Rescue as well as an Allegany County swift water rescue team were dispatched to respond for a dog trapped in the icy waters of the Genesee River near the Upper Falls south of Island Park. Within minutes, responders were on the road. According to Wellsville Ambulance, "Upon arrival Wellsville PD and bystanders were able to rescue to dog prior to crews arriving. As a reminder please be careful around any body of water this time of year and remember the section of Island Park by the river is closed for all traffic." According to radio traffic, Rescue called 911 and said "the PD has the animal out of the water."
