Following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer, Dr. Corrie Beth Burdick of Alfred, New York, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025 surrounded in love by family and friends. Corrie was born on April 17, 1969 in Hornell, NY to Dr. and Mrs. Vernon and Sharon Burdick.Corrie will be remembered affectionately by her daughters, Savannah and Luci Lee of Rochester NY; her mother, Sharon Burdick of Alfred New York; Sisters Cheryl (Michael) Crotser, Shaune (David) Henry, and Stacey (John Humbrecht) Burdick; cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as numerous friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her father, Dr. Vernon Lee Burdick in 2022.
Corrie would tell you her greatest pride and joy in life are her two daughters who have both become Social Workers committed to support and advocate for others seeking to improve their lives.
Corrie was a proud alumna of Syracuse University earning a BFA in Painting, BS in Art Education, Master of Science in Art Education and Ph.D. in Inclusive Art Education. She briefly taught art in Florida and Georgia before returning to the area and taking a faculty position at Alfred University where she spent 10 years preparing the next generation of art educators. She inspired 178 teachers of art throughout her career at Alfred University. After her time at Alfred University, she re-ignited her joy of teaching art to “littles” and joined the faculty at Washington West Elementary in the Olean City School District where she was fondly known as “Miss B”. If you asked Corrie what her biggest career accomplishment was, she would respond with humility that it was the opportunity to support art educators through her teaching, research, publications, and presentations on inclusive art education.
Corrie lived life to the fullest and was a person who appreciated art, music, the beauty of nature, singing around a campfire with family and friends, and being happily greeted by her two dogs when arriving home from work. Her last words of advice included everyone needs more Muppets in their life, sing like no one is listening, don’t sweat the small stuff and to always be kind.
A celebration of life will be held at the Union University Church in Alfred NY on February 15, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. Corrie requested that attendees wear pink.
