SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Ronald S. “Ron” Worden, 93, of
Shinglehouse, passed away with his loving family by his side on Monday, March
20, 2017 at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born on March 24, 1923 in Bolivar, NY, he was a son of Ross
L. and Lurena E. Stillman Worden. On May
18, 1946 in Ceres, NY, he married Yvonne Bell, who passed away on April 25,
1994. On February 17, 1996 in Olean, NY,
he married Beverly Maxson Gross, who passed away November 25, 2002.
He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. Ron was a World War II U.S. Army veteran
having served as paratrooper in the 17th Airborne Division in France, Germany,
Luxembourg, and Belgium and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He attained the
rank of Staff Sergeant.
Ron was a self-employed dairy farmer working until the time
of his death.
He was a member of Bell Run Union Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping
bobcats.
Surviving are five children, Ronda (Rich) Niver of
Shinglehouse, William “Bill” (Donna) Worden of Shinglehouse, Cheryll (Riley)
Rawson of East Hampton, NY, Pam (Alan) Cornelius of Shinglehouse, and Barry
(Loretta) Gross of Shinglehouse; five grandchildren, Chris (Eva) Worden, Scott
(Zoe) Rawson, Riley (Rosa) Rawson, Cari (Kurt) Babcock, and Bobi Krajewski;
twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Ruth) Worden of Shinglehouse;
and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, Ron was predeceased by
a grandson, Michael S. Graham; and two sisters, Opal Higgins and Dawn Prince.
Friends may call from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday and from 9am
to 11am on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118
South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 11am
with the Rev. Chad E. Shaffer, pastor of Bell Run Union Church, officiating. Burial will be in Bell Run Cemetery.
In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the
donor’s choice.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord
military honors on Thursday.
