From the Bradford Era:
A family is homeless and a dog is dead after a fire
destroyed their home in Ulysses Township Thursday
morning.
At 11:54 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to 453
Cowburn Road, where Tri-Town Volunteer Fire Co. Chief
Luke Lampman said he found light smoke coming from
the modular home.
No one was home at the time; a neighbor called in the
fire, he said.
Officials deemed the home a total loss, saying that
water, heat and smoke destroyed the structure. The fire,
which started in the basement, is being considered nonsuspicious,
Lampman said.
John and Judy Turton were listed as residents. One of
their dogs survived, while the other died, Lampman said.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family, he said.
Assisting with the incident were fire departments from
Ulysses, Harrison Valley, Genesee, Galeton, Westfield
and Coudersport. Firefighters were on scene for about
seven hours, which includes investigating the blaze,
Lampman said.
