MAYDAY declared at Ischua house fire
There were tense moments Sunday morning when the roof
collapsed at a burning home, reportedly trapping firefighters inside. The blaze
was called in at 8:45 a.m. at 400 Yankee Road in Ischua, just outside of Cuba.
Firefighters responded from Ischua, Lyndon, Hinsdale, Cuba, Clarksville,
Friendship, New Hudson and Rushford. Frantic calls for ambulances from
Cattaraugus and Allegany counties were made when as many as six firefighters
were believed to be in the rubble. Thankfully, the “all clear” order was issued
at 9:38 a.m.
Ambulances responded from Ischua, Lyndon, Hinsdale,
Allegany, Trans Am, Olean City, Medical Transport, Cuba and Westons Mills.
When the first fire chief arrived, he notified 911 that all
occupants inside the home had safely evacuated. In the next breath, the MAYDAY was declared. The injured were
transported to Olean General Hospital. The Cattaraugus County Fire
Investigation Team responded to the scene.
