Severe weather pounded Allegany and surrounding counties
Severe weather pummeled Allegany County and neighboring counties Sunday afternoon. During the 3 p.m. hour, a town of Willing fire chief told 911that several buildings had "been flattened" while a severe storm warning was in effect. Throughout the county, 911 reported numerous tree's and power lines down. Utility companies were placed on overtime. The National Weather Service monitoring station at the Wellsville Municipal Airport showed wind gust at that time to near 40 mph. In Potter County, wind gusts exceeded 50 mph. A burst of rain also caused several streets and highways to become flooded. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service also monitored possible tornado's near Shinglehouse and in the northeastern portion of Allegany County.
