On Friday, March 14th, 2025 Morrison Hayes Unit 702 Color Guard was proud to lead off Wellsville AOH St. Patrick’s Shortest parade.
The American Legion 106th Birthday was celebrated on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 at Morrison Hayes Post 702, Wellsville NY and attended by 78 Legionnaires, Auxiliary, SAL and Riders who all enjoyed a delicious meal catered by L’Italia. Then a piece of Birthday Cake was enjoyed by all. Emcee for the evening ceremonies was Commander Yvonne Simmons.
After dinner, awards were presented for the 2024 year in which family members were present for each award winner.
2024 Rider of the year was presented by Director Robert Toney to Jacob Brewster. Per Mr. Toney, Jacob is always willing to step up and lend a hand where needed. “Congratulations Jacob Brewster!”
When the SAL representative was ready to present the 2024 SAL Person of the year, he stated that this SAL had been Commander for 10 years and was always willing to step up to head the Ham and Leek Dinner and to hanging the flag on Route 417 on top of the hill. “Congratulations Fred Roberts IV!”
Unit 702 Auxiliary President Angela Brewster said “this recipient attended 169 Honor Guard services since January 2019, logged over 440 hours of volunteer time since November 2020, chaired Support our Troops Active Military Packages for 4 years. Was a leader and supporter of Unit 702 Junior Activities for 2-1/2 years. “Congratulations Rose Cozzi!”.
Commander Simmons presented two awards – the first was for Post 702 Commanders Award which she led off with “Is a United States Army Veteran, who joined the American Legion in 1997 and has consistently gone above and beyond in his service to our post and community for over 26 years. He was one of the original masterminds for the Legions beautiful new addition. “Congratulations Brent Roberts!”
Her second award was for Post 702 Legionnaire of The Year which began with “A member who has demonstrated expectational dedication, service and leadership within our Post and our community. We honor not just his accomplishments of the heart and soul of an extraordinary legionnaire who ‘s commitment to serving others serves as an inspiration to us all”. “Congratulations Kris Green!”
To end the evening, all joined hands and sang God Bless America.
