Members of the Assembly Majority Democrat caucus are proposing to take state spending to $256.5 billion.
“As we continue budget negotiations, every New Yorker should be grateful that this isn’t the final spending plan. I am going to work with Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay and my colleagues in the Minority Caucus to propose cuts to help New York’s already struggling taxpayers,” Assemblyman Sempolinski said.
“The majority delivered a budget with no regard to fiscal responsibility, or the affordability crisis New Yorkers are facing. It’s an indefensible and irresponsible runaway spending spree. As I said in January, this is what happens when you think throwing money at a problem is your only solution,” Assemblyman Sempolinski said.
“My colleagues in the majority like to talk about how New York is leading the nation. Because of budgets like this, we are leading the nation with the highest tax burden in country. The average New York taxpayer shells out more than $12,000 in taxes per year when the national average is around $7,000. That’s unsustainable and a major reason why people are fleeing the state in record numbers,” Assemblyman Sempolinski said.
“If we want to attract more businesses and residents, we need to make New York a more affordable place to live. That starts with a responsible state budget, cutting spending and increasing government efficiency. This budget proposal does none of that,” Assemblyman Sempolinski said.
