Walter L. Hibbard, Jr:
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather
Walter L. Hibbard, 86, 9472 Keller Hill Rd., Cuba, passed
away February 12, 2025 in the late evening hours at home with family at his
side.
Born on February 7, 1939, in Cuba, he was the son of Walter
L. and Wilba Thompson Hibbard, Sr. On
August 25, 1958, in Albion, he married the former Ida G. Appleton who
survives.
Walt was a graduate of Edison Technical High School in
Rochester. Later he graduated from
Alfred University with a degree in Human Resources.
He worked in Wellsville at Turbodyne for 14 years, owned and
operated Western Auto in Olean with his wife for several years, and then
relocated to Florida and worked for the D.H.S. as a Medicaid Supervisor prior
to his retirement.
Walt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cuba, where
he served as a deacon and also sang for many years in the choir. In the
community he was a member of the S.T.A.R.S Airplane Club where he served as
president for several years and when his children were young, he was a coach
for farm league.
He was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan, excellent cook and liked
to hunt, fish, build model airplanes, and take long walks in the woods, but
most of all he loved his family and helping anyone in need.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Ida, are two sons, Stephen
V. (Gretta) Hibbard of Wayne, Oklahoma and Walter D. (Jennifer) Hibbard of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a daughter Patricia
Hibbard of Cuba; 9 grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his parents. At his request there were no services. Arrangements are under direction of the Mark
