Jeff Luckey of Short Tract, who has been the Allegany County Fire Coordinator for a number of years, has been removed from his position. Three people, including a firefighter from Wellsville, are eligible for the post. Luckey was discharged in May and a public safety official was unsure who was in charge at the moment. Prior to the discharge of Luckey, Shaun Taylor of Allentown was the second in command of the county fire service. Luckey replaced Keith Barber, who assumed command when the fire dispatch moved from Andover to Belmont, following the retirement of the lone county dispatcher Mel Mickle. Several county legislators said quietly that Luckey's re-appointment had been in jeopardy. Other fire officials had no comment.
