Youth Sports and Education Opportunity Funding The Allegany County Board of Legislators accepted new funding provided by New York State focused on supporting youth development projects and activities via local nonprofit organizations and/or municipal-operated youth programs. The funding was secured by Don Horan, Deputy Commissioner of Social Services, and will allow our Youth Bureau to accept applications for reimbursement. The Allegany County Youth Bureau is requesting proposals for Youth Sports and Education Opportunity Funding to support programs for Allegany County youth sports teams between the ages 6-17. All programs must support positive youth development, physical health and well-being, mental health, and community cohesion. In 2023, the Allegany County Board of Legislators acted to merge the Youth Bureau Department with the Department of Social Services. This collaboration has provided additional support and knowledge to the Youth Bureau staff resulting in an increase in state funding totaling $55,107 in 2024 for youth related activities. Allegany County youth sports organizations have the opportunity to submit proposals for reimbursement of certain expenses from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024. Eligibility details and information on the application process may be found on the Allegany County website, Youth Bureau section: https://www.alleganyco.gov/departments/youth-bureau/. The application deadline is June 27, 2024. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. A virtual informational meeting will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. to help answer any questions and to guide applicants through the process. Please email: brian.perkins@alleganyco.gov to request a link for the meeting.
