On June 20, 2024 at 8:00 P.M., Troopers out of SP Amity responded to a teen who was swimming in the Genesee River near State Route 19 and Oramel Hill Road in the town of Caneadea. Investigation determined that two youths went into the Genesee River to swim, but a 15-year-old male was swept away by the current and did not resurface. The NYSP Underwater Recovery Team, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and multiple other resources were deployed in the search for the missing teen. The victim was located on June 21, 2024 at approximately 11:30 A.M.
The name will not be released at this time until all next of kin are notified.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
