State Police take a triple homicide suspect into custody on I-86 in Steuben County

On June 6, 2024, at approximately 5:37 p.m., troopers from SP Amity initiated a traffic stop on a 2009 Honda Civic believed to be involved in a triple homicide in Virginia. The suspect vehicle failed to comply, so pursuit was initiated. The pursuit went into Troop E, where the Steuben County Sheriff's Office assisted the New York State Police. A tire deflation device was used, causing the vehicle to crash. The suspect, Alyssa J. Venable, age 23, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, was taken into custody. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office wanted Venable for three counts of second-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Venable was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries. The New York State Police will obtain a fugitive warrant for Venable, and extradition arrangements will be forthcoming.
