Obituary: Carl E. Schneider, 81, Friendship

FRIENDSHIP — Carl E. Schneider, 81, of 9 South St., Friendship, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his daughter’s home, in Liverpool, Sunday (June 10, 2018), after lengthy illness. Born Jan. 5, 1937, in Cuba, he was a son of Carl H. and Lillian L. Glover Schneider. On June 2, 1962, he married the former Judith A. Moser, who preceded him in death Feb. 23, 2010. Carl served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. He then went to work for Allegany County for several years and later at Friendship Central School, where he had been a bus driver and mechanic and was later promoted to transportation supervisor, retiring in 1997 after 33 years of service to FCS. He was also a policeman for the Town of Friendship for a short period of time. He was a member of Cuba Friendship Masonic Lodge 306 F&AM, where he served as Past Master before merging with Cuba. He was a member and Past Commander of the Friendship American Legion Post 1168; the Corning Consistory; and member and Past Fire Chief of the Friendship Fire Department. Always being civic minded, he served as Town Supervisor and Town Councilman for several years. During his lifetime he enjoyed traveling, camping, golfing, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and school events and just spending time with his family. He is survived by two daughters, Terri Schneider of Liverpool and Tracey (Phillip) Mitchell of Randolph; his beloved grandsons, Austin Mitchell and Alex Mitchell; a brother, LaVerne G. (Diane) Schneider of Hilton; a sister-in-law, Marian Schneider of Friendship; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Judy, he was predeceased by a brother, James F. Schneider, on Jan. 3, 2011; and his dog, Stella, who provided hours of companionship after the loss of his wife. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday (June 16, 2018) at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba, at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Clara E. Wilder, pastor of Friendship United Methodist Church, will officiate. Members of Cuba Friendship Masonic Lodge 306 F&AM may assemble in the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. to conduct funeral services. Burial with full military honors, accorded by members of Friendship American Legion Post 1168, will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship.
