The New York State Education Department has awarded $28
million in Student Support and Academic Enrichment grants. The Fillmore Central
School District will receive $128, 573; The Genesee Valley School District is
earmarked to receive $132,941. The Board of Regents Chancellor said these
grants provide flexible funding to districts, so they can decide where the
money can best be used to lift student achievement. Chancellor Betty Rosa added
that “for too long, we’ve seen a narrowing of the curriculum in schools – but
these grants are aimed at once again providing students with a more
well-rounded education.”Other area districts that will receive grant money:
Olean: $192,465
Hornell: $135,204
“These grants have the potential to make our students healthier and safer, more well-rounded, and more tech-savvy,” said Commissioner MaryEllen Elia. “By providing added flexibility in the use of the grants, districts are empowered to fund activities that make the most sense for their schools and students.
