Belfast: Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame Celebrates 10th Anniversary

BELFAST, NY - Scott Burt, President of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame (BKBHOF), invites you to come celebrate the annual BKBHOF Induction Weekend, July 6th and 7th. 

“It’s our 10th anniversary so we have a several special events planned,” Burt said, noting that the events kick off with a beer, wine, and cider tasting on Friday, July 6, at St. Patrick’s Hall on Hughes Street. “We did this at our first induction ten years ago so we are looking for a great turn-out again this time,” he said. The wines of Pollywogg Holler and a special brew from Ringside Beer of Saratoga Springs are two of the featured tastings. “In addition, Santos Beverage of Olean, who was with us at the first beer tasting ten years ago, will have be offering a variety of beers, wines and ciders to celebrate the occasion too,” he added. Limited tickets are available for $25 presale and $30 at the door. Tickets include the tastings and a commemorative tasting glass. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
On Saturday, the festivities begin at the Belfast Post Office with a special 10th Anniversary cancellation at 10 am. Then it’s off to the Methodist Family Center for a meet and greet with special guests at 11am. Confirmed guests this year include:

·         Former Sabre’s Enforcer and commentator Rob Ray
·         Rick Jeanneret , the “Voice of the Buffalo Sabres”
·         Legendary boxing referee Bill Clancy who officiated Mike Tyson’s 50th win
·         Billy Backus, 1970 World Welterweight Champ
·         Dick Topinko, 1970 Undefeated Buffalo Boxer, ranked by Ring Magazine in the World’s Top 5
·         Gold Medal Winning Team USA Sport Jujitsu from Olean
At 11:30 a.m., the Induction Brunch and Awards gets underway. “We will be unveiling of the historic Police Gazette trophy for the first time,” Burt said. “Every recognized Bare Knuckle Boxing Police Gazette Champion from the 1880’s to present is included on the trophy – it is the Stanley Cup of Bare Knuckle Boxing!” One of only two men in history have had the responsibility of naming World Police Gazette Bare Knuckle Boxing Champions – the other is Founder Richard K. Fox – Burt was bestowed the honor in 2016.
After brunch, there will be a tour of the Hall of Fame museum. “The HOF is housed in the barns where William Muldoon trained the Great John L. Sullivan for his very last bareknuckle heavyweight championship back in 1889,” Burt explained. “This is the world’s only Hall of Fame dedicated to bareknuckle fighters and it has a fascinating history.” Tickets for Saturday’s events are pre-sale only, include all events, and for only $55.
