Wellsville: Fire displaces family of five

A fire Wednesday morning displaced a family of five as flames scorched their rental home at 36 North Highland Avenue in the village of Wellsville. The blaze originated in a second floor bathroom and quickly spread to the attic. Allegany County Emergency Management Director and Fire Coordinator Jeff Luckey said Wellsville firefighters did a "great job" at containing the blaze. Luckey said fire crews had to cut holes in the roof and the damage included water and structural damage. No injuries were reported but several firefighters had to engage in the rehabilitation protocol. The cause of the blaze has been listed as "accidental." The family includes a husband and wife and three children, ages 2,4 and 22. The youngest children were in the home when the fire ignited. Wellsville firefighters were assisted by Wellsville police and ambulance and as well as the District 4 FAST team and volunteers from Andover and Scio. Willing volunteers provided standby coverage in Wellsville. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
