ANDOVER – Bruce R. Mothersell, 66, passed away peacefully
Tuesday (May 15, 2018) at home. Mr. Mothersell was born on June 12, 1951 in
Cuba to Raymond and Ethel (Gayhart) Mothersell. He was a 1969 graduate of Cuba
Central School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1971. He
later graduated from Alfred State College.
Bruce owned and operated Mothersell’s Contracting in Andover
for 45 years until his retirement in 2012. He took a great deal of pride in his
work and gained a great amount of personal satisfaction from his late night
service calls.
Bruce is survived by two sons, Chad (Nikki) Mothersell of
Rhodesdale, Md. and Raymond (Kathleen) Mothersell of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one
daughter, Kristy Baccile of Ann Arbor, Mich.; the mother of his three children,
Kerry Trethewy of Ypsilanti, Mich.; one sister, Phyllis (Dan) Allen of Macedon;
six grandchildren, Emelia Baccile, Caleb Mothersell, Mason Mothersell and Levi
Mothersell, all of Ann Arbor, Mich., Jordan (Wyatt) Norfolk, of Hebron Md. and
Sydney Shapard of Rhodesdale, Md.; two nephews, Dan (Karen) Allen and Terry
(Jen) Allen; and several cousins.
Bruce was a simple man with simple interests. He was a
craftsman when it came to woodworking. Bruce enjoyed wildlife whether it was
watching and caring for it at a distance or enjoying the interaction with it
through his love of hunting and fishing. He enjoyed reading, especially outdoor
magazines and history.
Bruce was also a family man. His children’s favorite
memories were the times spent at Salamanca State Park. It’s been told he had a
“unique” sense of humor which nobody seemed to understand. At the end of one of
his stories, everyone would “wink wink” at each other, not sure what it all
meant. But there was never any doubt about his love. He made all those around
him know they were loved and accepted.
There will be a combined private memorial service on Sunday
at the Cuba Cemetery for Bruce and his mother, Ethel Mothersell, who passed
away on Nov. 13, 2017. Full military honors will be rendered at that time. A
Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home,
3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville from 6-7 p.m. Online condolences may be
offered at www.baker-swan.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bruce’s name
may be made to Hart Comfort House of Allegany County, 141 E. State St.,
Wellsville, NY 14895.
