“What a great way to kick off summer time fun,” says Lora
Cope, Community Blood Bank (CBB) mobile drive coordinator. “Save lives and be
entered to win a summer fun package.”
The need for blood increases during the summer months. With
schools out of session and regular donors traveling, donations historically hit
low levels. “Don’t take a vacation from donating blood,” says Stephanie
Phillips-Taggart, community relations coordinator. “Now more than ever, local
patients need your help.”
Donations made to the Community Blood Bank impact the local
blood supply.
Individuals are eligible to give blood if it has been 56
days since their last donation; they are at least 17 years of age (16 with
parental consent); weigh at least 110 pounds; have not received a tattoo or
body piercing in the past 12 months; are in good general health and do not have
a cold or the flu Donors must have a valid photo ID in order to register. Prior
to donating, those giving blood should eat a good solid meal and drink at least
18 oz. of water. Appointments are not necessary, but can be made if preferred.
Donors who attend Community Blood Bank drives from May 29 to
June 30 will automatically be entered in the fire pit/Adirondack package
drawing. To schedule an blood donation appointment or to learn more
