ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y., May 21, 2018 — Aaron Chimbel, winner of a national Edward R. Murrow Award and five Texas Emmy Awards, has been named dean of the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University. He begins work Aug. 1.
Chimbel has taught full-time at Texas Christian University’s Bob Schieffer College of Communication since 2009, most recently as an associate professor of Professional Practice in Journalism.
“As a pioneer in producing original multimedia news content for the web, Aaron brings to St. Bonaventure’s Russell J. Jandoli School of Communication a fresh, entrepreneurial spirit that will enhance the already sterling image of this great school,” said Dr. Joseph Zimmer, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.
David Kassnoff has served as interim dean since Dr. Pauline Hoffmann stepped down in January.
Chimbel has published two books and specializes in video and digital journalism. His students have won dozens of awards for their work.
Before joining the TCU faculty full time, Chimbel worked as the MoJo (mobile journalist) at WFAA-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth, becoming one of the first reporters in any U.S. market to produce original, web-only video content.
“I am honored and humbled to be named the dean of the Jandoli School, and I am well aware of the commitment to ethics and excellence established by Dr. Jandoli,” Chimbel said. “My goal is to build on the school’s many years of success producing dedicated journalists and communicators, while ensuring the school is a vibrant hub of innovation that pushes our fields and our graduates to be better.”
Chimbel was also a reporter at KWTX-TV in Waco, Texas, and a producer at Texas Cable News. He’s also produced two documentaries.
Chimbel earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from TCU in 2002, and a master’s degree in journalism (with a concentration in broadcasting) from Columbia University in 2003.
