Obituary: Almon G. Freeman, 97, Ulysses
Almon G. Freeman, 97, of Fox Hill, Ulysses, PA, passed away
Friday, May 18, 2018 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, PA. Born March 16, 1921, at home on Fox Hill,
Ulysses, he was the son of Charles and Matie E. Carpenter Freeman. He attended the country school on Fox Hill
and graduated from Lewisville Vocational School in Ulysses. On June 16, 1946, in All Saints Episcopal
Church in Brookland, he married his soulmate, the former Irene M. Palmatier,
who survives. Almon and his wife owned
and operated a farm, which was recognized as a Century farm. He was a school bus driver in the Northern
Potter School District for many years and served on the Northern Potter School
Board. He was a member of the Ulysses
United Methodist Church, 70-year member of Lewisville Lodge #556 F&AM in
Ulysses and Coudersport Consistory, Gold Grange, and a life member of the
Tri-Town Volunteer Fire Co. in Ulysses.
He served as an officer of the Fox Hill Cemetery for many years. Almon and Irene were honored as Ulysses
Citizens of the Year in 2012. He and his
wife went on many bus trips. Almon
enjoyed boating, fishing with friends and family, trapping, and camping,
especially the Labor Day camping weekend with the whole crew at the farm
campsite. He even tried his hand at
flying and was told, “Almon straighten up and fly right.” A soft-spoken man, he never said a whole lot
at one time, but listen well, because it was worth remembering every word he
said. Surviving besides his wife of 71
years, Irene, are: six children, Theresa
(Ronald “Ronnie”) Hall of North Bingham, John (Lorrene) Freeman of Ulysses,
Karen (Mahlon, Jr. “Mick”) Cole of Mills, David (Robin) Freeman of Ulysses,
Paul (Cheryl) Freeman of Ulysses, and Rita (Scott) Braymiller of Troy; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Charlene Nelson of Haines City,
FL; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Volney
Freeman; and a son-in-law, Ray
Hancock. Friends may call Tuesday, May
22, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home &
Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA. A
Masonic Service will be held 8:30 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at
11:00 AM in the Ulysses United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Lamer will officiate. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery,
Ulysses. In lieu of flowers, memorials
