“GFI graduates have enhanced their professional acumen to
better navigate the daily challenges of managing public funds,” said Maura
Ryan, the Executive Director of NYGFOA. “In an increasingly complex field, it
is imperative that government finance officers develop a broader range of
knowledge and skills. GFI is a key part of that process.”
Mr. Johnson participated in and completed training on the
core competencies of government finance ranging from accounting and financial
reporting to cash management, budgeting and internal control. He earned his Foundations certificate in
2014. He was presented with his Advanced
certificate at NYGFOA’s 39th Annual Conference in March.
GFI is an on-going, two-level, progressive program offering
the opportunity to obtain a well-rounded working knowledge of the nine core
functional areas of government finance, including accounting, auditing, debt
management and ethics. It is open to NYGFOA members, non-members, and
interested private-sector individuals.
NYGFOA is a not-for-profit organization of over 1,100
government finance professionals whose mission is to strengthen the capacity to
manage public finances effectively and responsibly for the public benefit by
enhancing government efficiency and accountability throughout New York State.
