Obituary: Christine Elizabeth Ward, 64, Andover

ANDOVER – Christine Elizabeth Ward, 64, passed away on Monday (January 6, 2025) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with her family by her side.

Mrs. Ward was born in Wellsville on September 18, 1960 to Clark and Phillis (Hollister) Perry. She was a 1978 graduate of Scio Central School. On August 21, 1993, on the front lawn of her soon-to-be in-laws, Christine married the love of her life, Michael D. Ward, who survives.

Christine preferred the role of homemaker and since 1993 enjoyed tending to the needs of home. Previously she worked at Houghton Nursing Home as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After that, she worked at the Jolly Dee Restaurant in Wellsville as a waitress and finished her vocational years at Andover Unimart.

Along with her husband of 31 years, Chris is survived by her children, Stevie (Jolene) Middaugh of Belfast, Cassy (Kyle) Crowner of Phillips Creek, and Kimberly (Jesse Jaycox) Ward of Andover; two brothers, Roger (Pam) Perry of Scio and Charlie (Cheryl) Perry of Allentown; a sister, Sheila Decker of Wellsville; a daughter-in-law, Hillary Jaycox of Belfast; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Perry of Allentown and Tammy (Marlin) Carlin of Wellsville; a brother-in-law, Blane (Michelle) Ward of Painted Post; seven grandchildren, Xavier McClure, Brooke Middaugh, Brad Middaugh, Harley Wardaugh, Sawyer Crowner, Morgan Satterlee and Brock Satterlee; one niece, Schyler Ward; four nephews, Tyler (Sara) Carlin, Garett Ward, Cody (Chelsie) James, and Casey (Courtney) James; and many cousins.

Chris was predeceased by a brother, Clark W. Perry, Jr. and a sister, Dale Hodge.

Like so many in her family, Chris was an enthusiastic Buffalo Bills fan. She loved horses and, along with her husband, attended area horse and pony pulls. They also shared a love of NASCAR races. Chris enjoyed working in her garden and gained great pleasure in canning the harvest each year. She was content being at home, enjoying simple pleasures such as sunbathing.

She was a social person and quite the talker. Some might even describe her as the life of the party. Chris was a caring soul whose truest delight was in her husband, children and grandchildren. Her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay or a warm hug.

Visitation will be held on Friday (January 10) from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-1 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Carl Kemp of Knights Creek Church in Scio officiating.
