Freedom: Machias-based state police say a Scio man suffered fatal injuries in a one-vehicle crash on Route 98 in Freedom at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Thomas E. Kilmer, 69, of Scio. Trooper James O’Callaghan in Batavia told WRN that Kilmer was operating an F-150 truck when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle exited the highway, striking a culvert pipe and then a tree. He was alone in the vehicle. Troopers said Kilmer was rushed to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville where he was pronounced deceased. Trooper O’Callaghan said an autopsy will be performed at Erie County Medical Center. A full press release will be issued in the near future.
