Obituary: Richard E. Shields, 86, Bolivar
Bolivar - Richard E. Shields, 86, of 717 South Bolivar Rd.
passed away on Sunday August 13, 2017 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center
following a lengthy illness. Born January 3, 1931 in Sharon Township Pa. he was
the son of Clyde L. and Iva Mesler Shields. Dick married Joyce Stephens on July
12, 1952 in Allentown, Mrs. Shield’s survives. Dick attended Wellsville High
School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1952-54 in Germany and
also served in the Army reserves. Dick was employed as a pipefitter for the
former Dresser Clark Co. in Olean for thirty-five years, retiring in 1991. He
was a member of Macedonia Lodge 258 F&AM Bolivar, the IOOF lodge Bolivar,
Kenyon Andrus Post 772 American Legion Bolivar, 4Cs senior citizens club in
Bolivar, member and past secretary for the bar bowling league at the Bowl-O-Var
Lanes in Bolivar for thirty-five years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, David (Stacy) Shields
Alma, Bradley (Vicky) Shields Scio, Jeffrey (Sara) Shields Lyons N.Y. Janna
(Dennis) Smith Wolcott N.Y.;thirteen grandchildren and seventeen
great-grandchildren; three Brothers, Francis Shields of Portville, James
(Roberta) Shields of Alma, Robert Shields of Alma; Several nieces and nephews. He
was proceeded in death by a grandson Curtis Shields in 1987; One Sister Phyllis
Dickerson in 2004; One brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Dorothy Shields; One
great-granddaughter Reagyn Shields in 2015.Friends may call at the Schaffner
Funeral Home Inc. Bolivar on Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 1-2 p.m. Funeral
services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery Bolivar. Memorials
to Bolivar Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, 460 Main St., Bolivar N.Y. 14715 or to
Allentown United Methodist Church.
