Canisteo - Larry J. Manry, 66, of Sixth Street, passed away unexpectedly at their home Wednesday (August 23, 2017) in the arms of his wife, Brenda. Larry had struggled with complications for the last five years with an inoperable growth on the left adrenal gland that contributed to breathing difficulties.
He married Brenda Clark on February 8, 1975 at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his wife Brenda of 42 years and five children, Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Keith Manry (Erica) of Yigo, Guam; Kenneth Manry, Tonya Sherman of Hornell, William Manry, Rebecca (Randy) Miller of Bath. Larry was born the second of 8 children to Helen Wood Manry and Calvin Manry on January 1, 1951. His Aunt Jean Wood of Canisteo had a great part in his upbringing. He is survived by his brother James (Kay) of Bath, Gary (Lois) of Bath, Helen (Doug) Buck of Bath, Marilyn Nicholson of Bath, his sister Phyllis (John) Richards who passed away in 2011, Patricia who passed away as an infant, and Vivian (Rick) Rice. Larry is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a loving Grandpa/Papa to 10 little blessings; Peigh Manry-19, Josiah Manry-17, Makalah Dailey-17, Quincy Dailey-15, Benjamin Manry-12, Tanner Sherman-10, Claire Manry-9, and Victor Luna-6, as well as Isaac Manry son of Keith and Erica Manry who passed away as an infant in 2001 and Anthony Boggan infant son of Tonya Sherman who passed away in 2002.
Larry and his wife Brenda were foster parents to many children from 1986-1997; April, James, Desiree, Angel, Barron, Brandon, Bert, William, Kenneth, and Richard. They adopted three of these children.
Larry was a hard working man employed as a machinist from 1974-2012. His health issues forced him into early retirement at age 62. He was pinned for 25 years of service as a machinist at Dresser Rand, Painted Post. Previous to this, he worked as a machinist at Dresser Rand in Wellsville; SKF in Hornell and Spruce Pine Mica Company, Spruce Pine, North Carolina. He enjoyed working with numbers and loved his work. He had a good work ethic and provided well for his family.
In his retirement years he drove medical transport for the Institute of Human Services covering many miles and sharing many a conversation with those he transported.
In his younger years, Larry enjoyed roller skating before arthritis forced him stop. He served as a floor manager and knew all the dance specials. He enjoyed camping and traveling.
His faith in God and his relationship with his Saviour were important to Larry. He taught mid-week scouting program for middle school children, served as a delegate to conference on the Central New York Wesleyan District, was a trustee and most recently was an assistant teacher in Children’s Church. His deep bass voice could be heard as he loved to sing in Choir or in Special Music. Southern Gospel Music was his passion. He served as head usher at the Chambers Wesleyan Family Camp for a number of years until his health forced him to stop. He took being a Christ follower very seriously. He led his wife to the foot of the cross on a daily basis.
He loved a good hearty card game around a kitchen table with his many friends and family. He passed on his love for games and competitiveness to his children.
He was a devoted husband, best friend, and lover to his wife Brenda. He gave his all to her 100% of the time. She is very blessed to have shared 42 years of her life with him. His genuineness was so evident to all. He never put on a front or pretended to be what he wasn’t. He loved his children and grandchildren without limits. He upheld them in prayer every night. He will be gravely missed by his family and friends and special cat; Sasha. He was a big man with a big heart. His wife and children will cherish his memory forever.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church. 25 Greenwood Street , Canisteo on Monday (August 28, 2017) from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Tuesday (August 29, 2017) from 4-5 PM followed immediately by the home going service.
