Obituary: Ludwig Lantz "Junior", 81, North Hornell


North Hornell -  Ludwig Lantz “Junior”, 81, of Elderwood at Hornell, passed away Sunday (August 20, 2017) at St James Mercy Hospital. Born in Hornell, NY, October 12, 1935, a son of Ludwig J. and Elsie M. (Prouty) Lantz, he had resided in the Hornell area his whole life. Junior spent most of his life living at his parents’ home until he moved to the ICF home on East Main Street in Hornell. He was very proud that he was able to work in the ARC workshops and that he was able to attend night classes at BOCES. Junior loved to ride the lawn mower, go-kart and other engine operated equipment that his dad made for him. He was very spoiled at the ARC, they took him to Mexico, to Buffalo Bills games and extra outings. Junior was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and loved NASCAR; especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Junior enjoyed going to the Woodhull Raceway where he was able to spend time with his family. He voted in every election. Junior always made the best of life and fought courageously until the end. He will be remembered for his bright blue eyes and his big smile. He was predeceased by his parents, aunts, uncles and an infant brother and sister. He is survived by 3 brothers; Leroy (Mary) Lantz of Hornell, Jacob (Mary) Lantz of Hornell and David (Sheryl) Lantz of Almond, 3 sisters; Elsie (the late Earle) Houghtaling of Hornell, Mary (John) Brown of Almond and Ruth (James) Whitmore of Hornell as well as many, many nieces and nephews including great and great great nieces and nephews, of whom Junior knew them all and his oldest relative, Aunt Lucy of almost 102 of the Hornell Gardens.

The family will be present from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, funeral services will be immediately following calling hours at 4:00 p.m., Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
