Railroad Work Schedule on Route 446 North of Eldred

Bradford, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers to upcoming railroad work on Route 446 in McKean County. The Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad will be working August 25 through 28 to replace a railroad crossing surface on Route 446 (Eldred/Portville Road), north of Eldred and near the New York state line.
A temporary run-around will be in place to move traffic around the work zone. Crews will be removing the existing surface on Friday, August 25 and paving the new surface on Monday, August 28. Some work will also take place on Saturday, August 26. No work is expected on Sunday, August 27, although weather and work progress could change work plans.
During the week of September 5, the WNYPA Railroad will be upgrading the existing railroad warning devices at this location. Upgrades will include new gates, flashing lights, and circuitry. This work is expected to be complete in one week. During the device upgrade work, motorists could encounter flaggers in the roadway, enforcing an alternating traffic pattern. Paving work and device upgrade work will take place during daylight hours. All work is weather dependent. PennDOT and the WNYPA Railroad remind drivers to approach the railroad crossing and work area with caution and to “Always expect a train”.
