Wellsville Police say a suspicious vehicle in Island Park
result in a drug bust today. Village Police caught site of the vehicle at 8:30 a.m.
and opted to investigate further. That investigation led to the arrest of
Matthew G. Monroe, age 27 of Wellsville. He was charged him with Criminal
Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd (Class B Felony) and Criminal
Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. Investigators
told WRN Monroe allegedly intended to sell powder cocaine, although it had not
yet been packaged. Police said Monroe also possessed multiple hypodermic
needles. The suspect was processed and arraigned before Associate Village Judge
Shaun Walsh. Monroe was committed to the
Allegany County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bail or $10,000.00 property bond. Monroe is due back in Wellsville Village
Court on August 22 at 4:30 p.m. Investigators said the suspected narcotic
will be lab tested to confirm its composition. Police report that additional
charges are pending. This latest bust is part on an ongoing operation by the Wellsville Police Department to track down drugs, dealers and prosecute them.
