HOUGHTON, NY - August 18, 2017 - Money Magazine recently
ranked Houghton as one of its Best Colleges for Your Money.
The listing was
narrowed down to 711 colleges in the United States, based on scores for 27 data
points across three categories: quality of education, affordability, and
outcomes. Aspects included six-year and
value-added graduation rates, peer and instructor quality, student loan
repayment/default risk, affordability for low-income students, estimated market
value of alumni skills, five-year and mid-career graduate earnings, College
Scorecard 10-year graduate earnings, and more. The magazine sourced data from
the United States Department of Education, Peterson’s, PayScale.com, and
Money/College Measures calculations.
“High quality and affordability have been hallmarks of a
Houghton College education since our founding in 1883,” remarked Houghton
College President Shirley Mullen. “For the sake of alumni, as well as current
and future students, we are glad to have these qualities recognized in Money
Magazine’s national rankings.”
Houghton was one of 42 Council for Christian Colleges and
Universities (CCCU) member schools included, and one of nine of the 21 Western
New York Consortium of Higher Education members to make the list.
