Statement from Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I– 57th District) on the New NY Broadband Funding:
“Broadband is a fundamental part of efforts to promote jobs creation, economic success and enhanced quality of life for those in rural areas such as ours. Residents and businesses in rural communities have the least access to broadband and the New NY Broadband Program, which we supported with $500 million in last year’s budget, is making capital investments to underserved areas that need technology improvements the most. It is especially pleasing to see that the projects receiving funding today will primarily improve broadband internet resources to underserved areas, enhancing access for libraries and educational opportunity centers,” said Senator Young.
Phase II funding from the New NY Broadband Program will invest over $11.3 million to support projects that enhance broadband access in the towns of Ashford, Great Valley, Randolph, Conewango, Cold Spring and Napoli, and the City of Salamanca in Cattaraugus County. State investments of over $8.2 million will support projects that improve access in the towns of Rushford, Centerville, Hume, Independence and Andover in Allegany County.
