Obituary: Douglas E. Thompson, 73, Elmira - former Wellsville firefighter and WLSV radio DJ


ELMIRA - Douglas E. Thompson, 73, of 427 Balsam Street passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Arnot Ogden Hospital. He was born July 12, 1946 in Wellsville, NY, the son of the late Harold G. and Norma (Wightman) Thompson. In 2002 in North Carolina he married Susan Burr who survives.
Doug was a former member of the Grant Duke Hose Co. No. 1, of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed his dogs, country music and Stephen King.  He helped bring country music to the Southern Tier as a DJ for WLSV radio, AM 790 in Wellsville. He was studying to become a lay minister with the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Daniel (Amy) Thompson of Conway, AR; a daughter, Nicole Ackerman of Little Rock, AR; two grandchildren, Matthew Thompson and Kira Ackerman, a brother, Robert (Priscilla) Thompson of Wellsville, as well as one niece, one nephew and several step-children.
