Bail denied- McKean County Judge says of defendant "No set of conditions can protect the public"

A Bradford, PA man has been jailed without bail in McKean County after city police there leveled ten counts against him. Police Thursday arrested 37-year-old Walter Jay Gutshall Jr. He was charged with the misdemeanor crimes of simple assault, making terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children and false imprisonment. Those crimes allegedly occurred August 19th. In a separate case from August 21st, he was charged with three felony and misdemeanor drug offenses as well as false imprisonment, making terroristic threats and harassment with physical contact.
At 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Gutshall was arraigned by District Magistrate Dominic Cercone Jr. Bail was denied and the defendant was remanded to McKean County Jail. According to the court docket report, under bail action reason, the judge entered "no set of conditions could protect the public." A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 29th at 8:30 a.m.
In January, Gutshall was charged with felony child endangerment after he allegedly overdosed in his apartment with a three-year-old child present. On June 5th, he was charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct-fighting, public drunkenness and scattering rubbish. Those cases were bond to court.
