Obituary: Richard H. Edwards, 85, of Allentown and formerly of Cuba

 

Richard H. Edwards, 85, of Drum Road and formerly of Cuba, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born January 27, 1939, in Weston Mills, the son of the late Herman and Virginia (Dickerson) Edwards. On May 26, 1976, in West Clarksville, he married Lois Edwards, who survives.

Dick attended Richburg Central Schools. He found his career at Dresser-Rand of Olean, retiring in 2001 after 30 years. Upon his retirement from Dresser, he was a driver for Meals on Wheels for the Allegany County Office for the Aging. In 1991 he moved to Allentown and was a life member of the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department, the Scio Restoration Church, and the United Steel Workers of America. Always involved in his community, while in Cuba, he guided and supported several youth activities including Youth Football, Little League Baseball, and was a Boy Scout Leader.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Lois, he is survived by: two sons, Richard “Paul” (Christina) Edwards and James “Jim” R. (Robin) Edwards both of Allentown; two daughters, Tammy Edwards of Wellsville and April Edwards of Minnesota; six grandchildren, Joshua (Amy) Edwards, Jeremiah (Jme) Edwards, Brandon Edwards, Tyler Edwards, Andrea (Christopher Evans) Edwards, and Makayla Edwards; 10 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings, Robert Edwards of Fort Mills, SC, Slyvia Edwards of Belfast, and Diane Edwards of Bolivar; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by: three sons, Scott Edwards, Westley Edwards, and Rodney Edwards; a sister and her husband, Bonnie & Dick Lockwood; three brothers, Gary Edwards, Herman Edwards, Harley Edwards; and sister-in-law Lois Edwards.
