The Allegany County DMV wants to remind residents that
beginning May 7, 2025 anyone boarding a domestic flight in the US will need a
REAL ID, Enhanced ID, or Passport to fly and to enter certain federal
facilities.
The deadline is quickly approaching. In order to avoid any
added stress while planning your next trip, New Yorkers are encouraged to not
wait until the last minute to upgrade their ID.
“There has been some confusion amongst recent travelers
passing through TSA checkpoints regarding upcoming ID requirements.” said
Deputy Clerk III Amanda Joyce-Phelps “Travelers are being reminded that they
must have a Real ID to board a flight beginning in May. Which is true. However,
an Enhanced ID, a Real ID and a passport are ALL Real ID-compliant. Any and all
of these can be used to board a domestic flight or enter certain federal
facilities.”
New Yorkers are encouraged to visit the Allegany County DMV
office as soon as possible to upgrade their license, permit, or non-driver ID even
if not yet due for renewal. There is no
additional cost beyond the renewal fee to get a REAL ID. An Enhanced ID costs
$30 extra and can be used as identification when returning to the United States
by land or sea from Canada, Mexico and some countries in the Caribbean.
While there is no need to make an appointment, residents are
encouraged to come prepared. Be sure to bring all required documentation. At a
minimum, you must provide documentation showing: 1) Full Legal Name; 2) Date of
Birth; 3) Social Security Number; 4) Two Proofs of Address of Principal
Residence. If you have been married and/or divorced you will need to provide a
certificate as proof of the name change(s), such as a marriage certificate or divorce
decree. Documents must be originals or certified copies.
“As always, we are happy to answer any questions you may
