Rep. Reed says "We can lower the cost"

Dear Neighbor,

Far too often, people are dying from diabetes because they are unable to afford insulin.  No American should have to choose between lifesaving medications and food for their families.

As a father of a Type-1 Diabetic, this cause is near to my heart. It is imperative that this medicine be more attainable by those who need it most.

Insulin has doubled in price since 2012, but we have led the charge to make it more affordable.

With support from Rep. Dianna DeGette, we wrote a bipartisan letter urging the FDA to expedite the review of generic insulin to lower costs for people.

Many manufacturers are waiting to introduce generics but due to FDA bureaucracy, they are denied. There are currently three manufacturers that control the market.

By taking action on this issue, we hope to prevent the delay of the needed competition to the market.

Until next time,

Tom
