Obituary: Robert Hugh "Bob" Smith, 92, Coudersport


Robert H. Smith  “beloved husband, father and uncle” 
COUDERSPORT, Pa. - Robert Hugh “Bob” Smith, 92, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on October 6, 1925 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Lawrence and Viola Marvin Smith.  On July 5, 1948 in St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport, he married Dorothy A. Dubots, who survives.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1944 to 1946 during World War II in France, Belgium, and Germany.  He was employed for 40 years at Pittsburgh Corning in Port Allegany, where he started as a shift foreman and retired as plant supervisor of the glass block division. Bob later worked at the former Erway’s Restaurant in Coudersport, PA.
Bob was a member of Coudersport American Post 192 and was a proud member of the NRA.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Bob was known for his kindness in making wooden key chain holders and then giving them away to numerous people.
Surviving besides his wife of 70 years are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by three children, Patricia Smith, Tommy Smith, and Cheryl Smith, who all sadly passed away from Cystic Fibrosis; a sister, Phyllis Acker; and two half-brothers, Allen and Tom Froebel.
Friends may call from 11a.m. to 1p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the gathering space of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1p.m. in the church with the Rev. James C. Campbell, pastor, as celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Eulalia Catholic Cemetery, Coudersport.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Eulalia Catholic Church, 6 Maple Street, Coudersport, PA 16915; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Bob’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
