Statement by Senator Young on Decision by Coudersport Officials to Withdraw Support for Fracking Waste Treatment Facility

Senator Young Applauds Decision by Coudersport Officials to Withdraw Support for Fracking Waste Treatment Facility

“I applaud the news that the board of the Coudersport Area Municipal Authority (CAMA) has withdrawn its support for the proposed fracking waste treatment plant on the banks of the Allegheny River in Coudersport Pennsylvania.  It was the right decision in light of the numerous questions and concerns that have been raised about the potential impacts on public health and the environment.  As I indicated when I voiced my opposition to the plant several weeks ago, there are other methods of handling fracking waste that should have been explored."

"The members of the Seneca Nation deserve to be commended for raising public awareness of the risks surrounding the proposed plant and for effectively making that argument to CAMA members as well as the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Their perseverance was critical to this decision and is a reminder that strong and united voices can effect change.”
