Bath – Two new full-time deputies and two seasonal deputies were sworn in at the Steuben County Public Safety Building Thursday (April 11) in front of family, friends and co-workers with Sheriff Jim Allard officiating. Returning Deputy Brandon Martin, a five-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, and a four-year veteran of the Village of Canisteo Police Department was sworn in along with Deputy Josh Day, a four-year veteran of the City of Hornell Police Department. "I am glad to be able to come back to where I started. I am thankful for my time in Canisteo, but it is good to be back," Martin said. "I look forward to working with the men and women of the Sheriff’s Department and to serving all of Steuben County, Day said.
Also sworn in were two members of the navigation, or boat, patrol as seasonal deputies. Deputy P.J. Dyring, currently a Lieutenant at the City of Corning Police Department, was sworn in along with Deputy Nicholas Muhleisen, who is currently completing training at the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy. Both will begin work during the boating season this summer.
Promoted at the ceremony were Sergeant Brandon Scott and Corporal Josh VanSkiver as first line supervisors. Sergeant Scott is a seven-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. Corporal VanSkiver is a two-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, a three-year veteran of the City of Corning Police Department and an 11-year veteran of the City of Elmira Police Department. | "I am thrilled to be able to promote such quality individuals as Sergeant Scott and Corporal VanSkiver," Allard said. "They are both energetic, hard-working, service-oriented police officers. This is a fantastic day of celebration, when we get to add known and proven police officers to our family and recognize the achievements of our leaders."
