McKean County: Helicopter crash near Smethport (PA) kills two, injures third

A helicopter, apparently engaged in power line repair services, crashed in McKean County, PA Sunday evening. Two people were killed, a third was injured. Pennsylvania state police say the crash occurred at 5:14 p.m. near East Valley Road, about 1.5 miles north of Smethport. According to state police, "of the three occupants in the aircraft, two were found to be deceased upon arrival and pronounced dead by McKean County Coroner Michael Cahill." Troopers said the pilot was flown to Hamot Medical Center in Erie with multiple fractures. In a statement, police said "it is believed that the aircraft was hovering next to a power line while workers tethered to the aircraft performed maintenance on the lines." Troopers have not yet identified the  victims involved. According to multiple sources,
the helicopter was owned by the electric line construction company, J. W. Didado of Ohio. The NTSB is now investigating.
