Wellsville - Cribs for Kids Program Receives Boost

(L to R):  Jeff Ciminesi, Program Development Coordinator at Southern Tier Health Care System and Denis Dahlgren, ACAF Executive Director.

The Allegany County Area Foundation recently awarded a $500 grant to the Southern Tier Health Care System to help with their Cribs for Kids Program.  This program was established in 2016 with support from the Allegany County Area Foundation.  Primarily an education program, Cribs for Kids promotes infant safe sleep by providing training and a Pack‘n Play crib to parents who, otherwise, would be unable to afford a safe place for their baby to sleep.
The goal of Cribs for Kids is to prevent infant deaths due to unsafe sleep practices.  Each year 3,500 infants die due to sleep related causes.  Sadly, many of these deaths could be prevented by following the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations for safe sleep.
The Cribs for Kids program has provided 195 Pack‘n Plays to parents and caregivers in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. Approximately 15% of these cribs were distributed to families in Allegany County.  To simplify the distribution of Pack‘n Plays in Allegany County, STHCS has partnered with Ardent Solutions in Wellsville.  For more information about Cribs for Kids please visit: http://www.sthcs.org/cribs-for-kids.html.
The Allegany County Area Foundation holds assets over 9 million dollars and continues to add new funds each year. The endowed funds continue to grow in perpetuity to enrich and improve the lives of our Allegany County citizens. If you would like more information on how you can provided a legacy of hope and good will in our community, please contact the Allegany County Area Foundation at 585-808-8444.
