Obituary: Joanna S. Hamilton, 87, Ulysses


Joanna S. HAMILTON, 87, of Ulysses, PA, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in her home.  Born September 7, 1929, in Edinboro, PA, she was the daughter of Frank and Edna Flynn Scheidemantel.  She was a graduate of Edinboro High School, class of 1947, and Erie Commercial College.  On October 21, 1950, in Edinboro, she married H. Clair Hamilton, moving to Potter County, giving up her city life to become a farm wife.  He predeceased her on August 11, 2004.  Mrs. Hamilton and her husband owned and operated Clair-Jo Farms in Ulysses for many years.  She was employed as a secretary at the Northern Potter High School in the 1960’s.  She was a member of the Ulysses United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and Order of the Eastern Star #95 in Ulysses.  Joanna was well-known for her green thumb, growing flowers and a large garden.  An excellent cook, her famous dishes were part of every church and fire company dinner.  Surviving are:  eight children, Laurel (Kurt) Kosa of Ulysses, Larry (Phyllis) Hamilton of Ulysses, Gary (Tina) Hamilton of Ulysses, Lynette Richardson of Columbia Cross Roads, Gay (Karl) Torrey of Coneville, Todd (Wendy) Hamilton of Ulysses, Heidi (Bill) Bodnovich of Chesapeake, VA, and Holly (Andy) Hyde of Ulysses;  24 grandchildren;  17 great-grandchildren;  three sisters,  Jane Lloyd of Edinboro, Joyce Dunkle of Corry, PA, and Laura Lee (Rich) Freer of Olean, NY;  a brother, David (Marilyn) Scheidemantel of Flushing, MI;  nieces and nephews;  and many wonderful caregivers.  Friends may call Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA.  An Eastern Star Service will be held 8:30 PM Saturday in the funeral home.  Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday in the Ulysses United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Donald N. Miller and the Rev. Jason K. Reed will co-officiate.  Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Ulysses United Methodist Church, P.O.
