ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y., March 16, 2017 — The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University honored 107 young, local artists March 15 at its annual High School Juried Art Exhibition.
The works were selected for the exhibition from more than 300 submissions after an extensive jurying process by professional judges. Participating schools included Austin, Belfast, Bolivar-Richburg, Cassadaga Valley, Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Clymer, Dunkirk, Ellicottville, Fillmore, Franklinville, home schools, Jamestown, Oswayo Valley, Otto-Eldred, Pioneer, Portville, Randolph, Salamanca, Southwestern, Wellsville and West Valley.
Winners, their families and friends were honored with an exhibition opening and reception.
In addition to their works being selected for exhibition at the Quick Center, Ludwig Brunner, executive director of the Quick Center, and Bernard Valento, vice president for enrollment, presented four students with St. Bonaventure University Artist Honor awards. Each award included a $1,000 scholarship to attend St. Bonaventure as well as a professional artist portfolio and art supplies to help the students continue their artistic endeavors.
Winning students included:
Alexis Howell, 12th grade, Pioneer Central School (art teacher Scott Losi), for her earthenware piece “Calla Vase;”
Marissa Klimczek, ninth grade, Pioneer Central School (art teacher Stacey Lechevet), for her ebony pencil drawing “Self-Portait;”
Emma Meyers, 11th grade, Southwestern High School (art teacher Jenny Brown), for her watercolor piece “Wild Child;” and
Allison Raecher, 11th grade, Ellicottville Central School (art teacher Deb McGowan), for her pastel work “Moon.”
Winning works of art will remain on view in the mezzanine of the Quick Center through Wednesday, April 19. The Quick Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Holiday hours vary.
