Born November 26, 1938, in Blossburg, he was the son of Louis W. “Luke” and Arvilla M. Seeley Crippen. On March 6, 1958, in the Judson near Sunderlinville, he married the former Pearl J. Mattison, who predeceased him on December 8, 2020. Rial was self-employed logger.
Surviving are: four children, Rick (Pam) Crippen of Westfield, Juanita Hand of Westfield, Shirley (Mike) Thompson of Ulysses, and Jeffrey (Lavina) Crippen of Westfield; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin (Sally) Crippen of Sabinsville, Howard Crippen of Ulysses, Paul (Peggy) Crippen of Westfield, and Mike (Lil) Crippen of Sabinsville; three sisters, Christine Mitchell of Waterloo, NY, Lulu Myrick of Geneva, NY, and Elsie Young of Sabinsville; nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two sons, Rial B. Crippen, Jr. and infant Mark Crippen; a granddaughter, Whitney Marie Crippen; and two brothers, Gordon Crippen and Roger Crippen.
A private viewing will be held at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses. A private graveside service for Rial and Pearl will be held in Riverview Cemetery, Potter Brook. Rev.
