69 New Cases of COVID in Steuben

BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 69 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19 since Saturday.  This brings the total to 2,956 confirmed cases, 576 of which are currently active. 

The individuals are residents of the:

·         City of Corning (13)

·         City of Hornell (9)

·         Town of Bath (2)

·         Town of Cameron (2)

·         Town of Canisteo (2)

·         Town of Caton

·         Town of Corning (3)

·         Town of Dansville

·         Town of Erwin (10)

·         Town of Fremont

·         Town of Hornellsville

·         Town of Howard (4)

·         Town of Lindley

·         Town of Prattsburgh (3)

·         Town of Urbana

·         Village of Addison

·         Village of Arkport (4)

·         Village of Avoca

·         Village of Bath

·         Village of Canisteo (2)

·         Village of Cohocton

·         Village of North Hornell

·         Village of Painted Post

·         Village of South Corning

·         Village of Wayland (2)

The individuals are isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department.  Public Health staff investigated and identified close contacts of the confirmed cases and exposure risks.  All those known to have direct contact with the individuals have been notified. 

Per CDC and New York State Department of Health guidance, information is collected beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or date of test if asymptomatic through the day of the positive test result to identify any potential exposure risks. 

 

The investigations indicate:

·         14 individuals had contact with previously reported Steuben positives

·         Two individuals are residents of Absolut Care Three Rivers

·         One individual is an employee of Hornell Gardens

·         Two individuals are linked with the Finger Lakes DDSO home in Cohocton

·         One individual is an employee of Groveland Correctional Facility

·         Two individuals are employees of local ambulance companies

·         Two individuals are employees of Steuben County, one at the Department of Social Services and one at the Mental Health Center in Bath

·         Four individuals are employee of Corning, Inc.: one at Sullivan Park, two at the Diesel Plant, one at the Erwin Plant

·         One individual is a student and Five individuals are employees of the following schools:

o   Arkport Central School District

o   Campbell-Savona Jr/Sr High School

o   Hugh Gregg Elementary

o   William E Severn Elementary

o   Hornell High School

o   Prattsburgh Central School

In addition to the locations noted above, the individuals reported visiting the following locations that could pose an exposure risk within their investigation timeframes:

·         12/11 – 12/13 – Wendy’s in Riverside

·         12/12 – Planet Fitness in Horseheads

·         12/13 – American Legion in Canisteo

·         12/14 – Cost Cutters in Horseheads

·         12/14 – Iron Flamingo in Corning

·         12/14, 12/15, 12/17, 12/18 – Journey Fitness in Corning

·         12/14 – 12/17 – Town of Corning Highway Department

·         12/15 – 12/17 – CemeCon in Big Flats

·         12/16 – Classic Hair Care in Corning

·         12/17 Lunch – Subway in Bath

·         12/17 Dinner – DJ’s Flamingo in Bath

·         12/17, 12/18 – Wilkins RV in Bath

·         12/17, 12/18 – Hornell Fire Department

·         12/18 Morning – Three Wishes Café in Bath

·         12/18 – Canisteo Veterinary Hospital

·         12/18 – Hair Zoo in Hornell

·         12/18 – CASA-Trinity in Hornell

·         12/18 – Verizon in Corning

·         12/18 – 12/21 – Wegmans in Corning

·         12/19 – Wayland Fire Department

·         12/19 – American Legion in Wayland

·         12/19 – Simmons Rockwell in Big Flats and Bath

·         12/19 Dinner – Olive Garden in Big Flats

·         12/19, 12/20 – Woodhouse Stadium Grill in Corning

·         12/19 – 12/21 – Maple City Discount Liquor & Wines in Hornell

·         12/21 – Buzzy’s Dream in Addison

·         12/21 – Nail Tech in Corning

 

Today’s age groups for the positives are as follows:

·         0 – 9 years: 2

·         10 – 19 years: 8

·         20 – 29 years: 10

·         30 – 39 years: 9

·         40 – 49 years: 14

·         50 – 59 years: 9

·         60 – 69 years: 9

·         70 – 79 years: 4

·         80 – 89 years: 3

·         90 – 99 years: 1

“Although not every positive shows symptoms, we see many who have mistaken their symptoms for colds, allergies, sinus infections, or other common ailments,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “During this time of high spread, it is especially important to recognize symptoms that might be common in wintertime any other year could very likely be COVID this year. If you have any of the recognized COVID symptoms, do not go to work, limit your contact with others and get tested.  These are some of the best ways to protect your loved ones and your community and to slow the spread.” 

 

All residents should continue to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell and contact their healthcare provider for instructions if feeling ill.
