BELMONT - Even though 2020 was filled with change and challenges due to the pandemic....such as closing our shelter and being open by appointment only for adoptions, we have kept on going with the help of our community and acts of kindness from many people. This year we also had to cancel many of our fundraisers and we were not able to attend community events with our SPCA furry residents, which was not only disappointing, but it also impacted our donations for the animals. But despite this we still have so much to be thankful for this year, we were still able to have our Theme Basket Auction, and we are grateful for all of the volunteers, donors and supporters that helped to make it a success.
For the first time ever, we have been running out of dogs to adopt and our cats and kittens are getting adopted at a steady pace - even with all the COVID restrictions we have managed to actually increase our cat & dog adoptions by 150%!! It's great news for all the animals, but we still need supplies and funds to care for all the animals passing through our doors. Thankfully many people and business owners in our community understand the needs of the shelter and have come to our 'rescue' this holiday season. The closer we get to Christmas we have the UPS & Fed Ex trucks stop by the shelter daily with donated deliveries from Chewy and Amazon, and many of our supporters have gone shopping and stopped by to drop supplies and goodies for the animals. Others have chosen to come to our rescue by making monetary donations to help us out, and we would like to thank Angela and Adam Cyr owners of Cyrco Construction in Bolivar, both are huge animal lovers and they have 5 dogs and 4 cats. We were presented with a $1,000 check from them as they wanted to give back and help out our shelter animals, but they also hope that with their donation this will inspire & challenge others to give what they can to help out the furry residents at our shelter. Every item or dollar donated is vitally important to help our shelter animals, but donating your time & talents, or fostering is important too.
(Pictured is Angela Cyr with her dog Shingles) Many people are not aware that the SPCA is a 501c3 charitable organization and we receive no tax payer dollars nor do we receive any governmental funding, we are run by donations, grants and bequests - without the support of our community and the kindness and generosity of our supporters we could not be in existence today - and believe it or not in 2021 the SPCA Serving Allegany County will be 110 years old!! If you would like to make a donation, you can donate by stopping by the shelter at 5440 State Route 19, Belmont, NY or donate online via PayPal by visiting our web site http://www.SPCAallegany.org, other ways to connect with us is by calling us at 585-593-2200 or email us at SPCAallegany@gmail.com and don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
We thank you for your support...and Happy Holiday wishes
from all the animals at the SPCA Serving Allegany County!
