Obituary: William C. “Bill” Vosburg, 81, Friendship

FRIENDSHIP/FREMONT-William C. “Bill” Vosburg, 81, of Wightman Road, Friendship, formerly of Fremont, passed away Monday morning (Dec. 21, 2020) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester from complications of COVID-19.

Born in Hornell on July 30, 1939, he was a son of the late Walter and Margaret (Drake) Vosburg. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Richard “Rick” Vosburg; one sister, Wanita Vosburg; and two brothers, Walter Vosburg and Warren Vosburg.

A graduate of Hornell High School, Bill proudly served his country for a total of 33 years of active and reserve duty with the Marine Corps, Navy Seabees and the Air Force.

He was a former resident of Fremont, South Dansville, Arkansas and most recently has resided in Friendship.

Bill was employed by DeWitt Construction before he began his 20-year career as a correctional officer at the Groveland Correctional Facility. He will be remembered for his strong work ethics and as a hard worker.

He was a member and past commander of the Cpl. J.J. Mooney VFW Post No. 2250 in Hornell, a member of the Charles E. Westcott American Legion Post No. 173 in Bath and the NRA. Bill enjoyed collecting coins, knives and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved animals and was a devoted supporter of President Donald Trump.

His loving family includes his wife, Viola Vosburg; two sons, Harold “Harry” (Lynn) Vosburg of Canaseraga and Mark Vosburg of Tyngsboro, Mass.; two grandsons, Dawson and Carter Vosburg both of Tyngsboro, Mass; also several stepchildren and step grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
